HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (23-25) | Errors held the UIW offense back, allowing SLU to get out to a 15-11 lead. The offense managed to get back on its feet thanks to the precision of Monday. She finished with five kills on five attacks (1.000 hitting) to help the Cardinals win five of six points and cut the lead to 24-23. But, the Lions managed to win the next point and win the set.

SET 2 (25-18) | Some early kills from Monday got the rest of the offense back on track. UIW jumped out to a 12-5 lead and never looked back.Kilchrist was dealing from the setter position, finishing the set with 15 assists and helping the offense hit .412. Monday's six kills led the team with Clapp and McGarity each adding four of their own.

SET 3 (25-15) | The Cardinals came alive in the third set, dominating in all phases of the game. Defensively, McGarity led the way, amassing four early blocks to allow UIW a 12-3 lead. SLU was held to -.056 hitting in the set, while the Cardinals finished hitting .303. Kilchrist distributed well, allowing five different Cardinals to register kills. Monday, once again paced the team with four kills in the set.

SET 4 (25-19) | UIW jumped out to another early advantage, 4-1, but couldn't manage to extend the lead past three points. SLU kept it close, even tying the set 13-13 at one point. But the fast-paced Cardinal offense wore down SLU's defenses late. Three consecutive SLU errors gave UIW match point and Taylor wasted no time delivering the final blow. The Cardinals improve to 1-1 in SLC play.

HEAR FROM HEAD COACH SAMANTHA DABBS
"Today was a great win. We started off slow with our serving and passing game. But we were able to find our rhythm with both and spread our offense out.

Clapp and Monday are both terminating on the outside for us and Cameron Taylor came in and had some good blocks for us. Her left-handed attack is an advantage for us.

Imani got her start today and was very disciplined and the net and blocked or touched a lot of their attacks to help slow down their offense.

Our libero Madelynn Miller had a nice game in the back row for us as well."

UP NEXT
The Cardinals continue SLC play with a road match at Lamar, Sept. 25 (7 p.m.). They follow that with a pair of matches at home -- Sept. 27 against Sam Houston State (7 p.m.) and Sept. 29 vs. Abilene Christian (2 p.m.) -- to complete a stretch of five matches in nine days.
