HAMMOND, LA. -- The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team continues its conference road trip with a stop at Southeastern Louisiana Saturday. First serve is set for 1 p.m. (CT). This is the second contest in the Cardinals stretch of five matches in nine days.

LAST TIME OUT
- A spirited four-set effort from UIW fell short at Northwestern State on Thursday.
- Freshman outside hitter Bethany Clapp paced the offense with 16 kills.
- It was her third consecutive double-digit kill performance, and her fifth of the season. She has now recorded 48 kills in her last three matches.
- Freshman setter Pilar Gonzaba turned in her best match of the season, statistically. She finished with 33 assists to lead the team.
- The month of September continues to be kind to sophomore outside hitter Julia Monday. She finished with 13 kills on a team-best .500 hitting.
- That is the best attack percentage of her career when amassing 10 or more kills.
- Monday also added four total blocks, tying her season high (set @ UTRGV 9/4).
- Freshman middle blocker Carissa McGarity matched her season high with five blocks (also @ UTRGV 9/4).
- Sophomore defensive specialist Madelynn Miller led the team, once more, with 22 digs. This marked her ninth career match, and the second of 2018, with 20-or-more digs.
- Miller sits second in the conference with 4.41 digs per set.
- Senior outside hitter Maddie Slaughter played a major role in the third set, collecting six of her eight kills.
CERTIFIED FRESH
- The Cardinal freshmen have asserted themselves as one of the top all-around freshman classes in the conference.
- McGarity sits among the top freshmen in the SLC with .92 blocks per set played. She also leads the team with 34.0 blocks this year.
- Gonzaba and Kilchrist have each eclipsed the 150 assist mark this season. Gonzaba currently leads the team at 192 assists to Kilchrist's 158.
- Kilchrist averages 7.52 assists per set, ranking sixth best in the SLC and second best among freshman.
- Gonzaba sits third best among freshmen in the conference, eighth best overall with 6.40 assists per set.
- Clapp has established herself as a premier offensive weapon on the outside. She leads the team with 109 kills, including 48 in her last three matches. Her .267 hitting percentage is second best among freshman in the SLC.
- She posted an .824 hitting percentage in UIW's victory over Alcorn State (9/15), the best attacking percentage for a single match in the conference (minimum of 12 kills) and the third most efficient performance in the country with 15-19 attempts.
- Clapp has now posted at least eight kills in eight of her last nine matches.
MONTH LONG CASE OF THE MONDAYS
- Monday has enjoyed a considerable jolt in results through six September appearances this season.
- She posted 62 kills on .323 hitting in her six matches this month -- averaging over three kills per set -- after posting just 11 in her previous five showings this year.
- Her improvements have spanned far beyond offense. She has recorded 29 digs this month (87.9 percent of her season total -- 33) and 12 blocks (85.7 percent of her season total -- 10)
- She has recorded double-digit kills three times in this stretch (11 @ UTRGV, 13 vs EWU and 13 @ NSU), giving her nine such matches in her UIW career.
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN STATE
- SLU (1-10, 0-0) opens its SLC schedule against the Cardinals.
- The Lions enter Saturday on a nine-match losing streak. Their only win this season came in four sets over Southern (8/25).
- SLU is led offensively by Elyssa Purcell with 75 kills.
- UIW leads the all-time series 4-2, including each of the last three matches.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals continue SLC play with a road match at Lamar, Sept. 25 (7 p.m.). They follow that with a pair of matches at home -- Sept. 27 against Sam Houston State (7 p.m.) and Sept. 29 vs. Abilene Christian (2 p.m.) -- to complete a stretch of five matches in nine days.
