BEAUMONT, Texas -- The University of the Incarnate Word Softball team finished its three-game series against Lamar University with 5-3 win on Saturday afternoon at the Lamar Softball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UIW jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first frame.
Marcela Lopez stole home for the first run of the game before
Emily Castro's single to right field scored
Jordan Goins for the 2-0 Cardinal advantage.

Lamar answered with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning and an RBI single in the bottom of the second to draw even with UIW.

LU used a home run to left field in the third frame to take a 3-2 advantage, but the Cardinals rallied in the sixth.

Hope Sobolewski tied the game in the top of the sixth when she smacked a double to right field, plating
Victoria Bratcher.
Delaney Guzman, pinch running for Sobolewski, scored on a muffed throw, giving UIW a 4-3 lead over Lamar.

The Cardinals added a run in the seventh when Castro hit an RBI single to bring home Goins, clinching the 5-3 victory.

Relief pitcher
Brett Coleman (1-1) earned the win. Coleman allowed just one hit and one walk in 16 batters faced through 4.2 innings.

UP NEXT
UIW travels to UTSA on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. (CT) contest at Roadrunner Field. The game was originally scheduled for April 25, but was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Cardinals take on Texas in Austin in a doubleheader on May 2. Game one starts at 4:30 p.m., while game 2 is set for 7 p.m. Both games will be on the Longhorn Network.
