NEW ORLEANS -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team evened the series against the University of New Orleans with a 4-3, 10-inning decision on Saturday afternoon at Maestri Field.

HOW IT WAS WON
Eddy Gonzalez had the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th frame, scoring as
Ryan Gonzalez reached on a Privateer error and giving UIW the 4-3 victory.

The Privateers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when they scored on a balk.
Â
After three scoreless frames, UIW took the lead in the fifth frame.
Sean Arnold used an RBI single through the right side to drive home
Ryan Flores and tie the game. Later in the frame, the Cardinals had the bases loaded when
Lee Thomas scored as
Ridge Rogers was walked.
Kyle Bergeron was then hit by a pitch to plate Arnold, giving UIW a 3-1 advantage.

UNO evened the score in the bottom of the ninth, scoring on a two-RBI single to center to force extra innings for the second consecutive game before E. Gonzalez scored in the 10th to secure the 4-3 win for UIW.

- For the second time this series, the Cardinals and Privateers went to extra innings. UNO secured a 6-5, 11-inning victory in game one before UIW won game two.
- Reliever Bernie Martinez earned the win, throwing a strikeout and allowing no runs and no walks in 1.1 innings pitched.
