HOUSTON -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team fell, 12-4, to Houston Baptist in game one of their series on Friday morning at Husky Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Kyle Bergeron blasted a solo home run to left field, but Houston Baptist drew even in the bottom of the second frame on an RBI single to left center.

UIW regained the lead in the top of the third when
Eddy Gonzalez smacked an inside-the-park home run to deep left center, but another HBU RBI single in the bottom of the inning knotted the game at 2-2.

The Huskies took their first lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, plating five runs on five hits to take a 7-2 advantage. HBU extended its lead with a sacrifice fly in the sixth frame.

The Cardinals cut the Husky lead to 8-4 in the top of the seventh inning. After a
Shea Gutierrez RBI single drove in
Ryan Gonzalez,
Ryan Flores used an RBI single to bring home
Garrett Terrell.

HBU scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the eighth to secure the 12-4 win in game one.

- E. Gonzalez was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. He leads the team with 19 multi-hit games.
- E. Gonzalez has had a hit in 11 consecutive games, while Flores leads the team with a 12-game hitting streak.
- E. Gonzalez has reached base in 25 consecutive games; Mark Whitehead has reached base in 16 consecutive games and Flores has reached base in 14 consecutive games.
- Tyler Miller suffered the loss, throwing four strikeouts and allowing just one walk in 6.0 innings pitched.
