HAMMOND, La. – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team was upended by Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday night, 65-54, at University Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals (3-19, 2-9 SLC) led for nearly the entire first quarter, and trailed the Lions (6-17, 5-7 SLC) by just three points at halftime, 33-30.
Things fell apart for UIW in the third quarter as SLU opened the period on a 19-4 run and never looked back.
The Cardinals tried to make things interesting in the final frame, pulling within seven at the 2:32 mark, but UIW was unable to climb back into the contest as the Lions cruised to victory.
THE BREAKDOWN
The Cardinals shot just 33.3 percent from the floor and 23.8 percent from three-point range on the night. SLU shot marginally better at 38.7 percent from the field and 30 percent from beyond the arc.
The Lions dominated the battle of the boards, 45-32, while earning a 30-14 edge on points in the paint and an 11-6 advantage on second chance points. SLU also picked up a 14-2 edge on fast break points.
While both teams committed the same number of turnovers, the Lions finished with a massive 20-6 advantage on points off turnovers.
LEADERS
Olivia Noah and
Quincy Baker led the Cardinals with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Haley Frias and
Gabbi Bowie each pulled down a team-high 5 rebounds, while Bowie added 3 assists to pace the squad.
Taylin Underwood spearheaded the SLU attack with 13 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal.

UIW faces a road test at rival Abilene Christian on Saturday at 2 p.m.
