SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word senior running back
Ra'Quanne Dickens was selected to the HERO Sports FCS All-America Team, announced Wednesday; he earned third team honors. Dickens was named a STATS FCS All-American on Tuesday.
Â
"I can't say it enough, but I am so proud of Ra'Quanne," said UIW Head Coach
Eric Morris. "He really bought into what this coaching staff has been preaching since the day we got here, and to see him being rewarded like this is awesome."
Â
Dickens, a Seminole, Florida, native, broke the program record for single season rushing yards (1,117 yards), rushing touchdowns (14), and 100-yard rushing games in a single season (5). The 14 rushing touchdowns was also a program record for total touchdowns and led to a program-high 84 points scored.
Â
Dickens started the year setting records when he recorded the longest run from scrimmage in program history on Sept. 1 against New Mexico with a 90-yard touchdown run. He then added the fourth longest run from scrimmage in program history in the home opener, vs. SFA on Sept. 15, when he scampered for a 79-yard touchdown. These two runs also marked the longest two runs by any SLC student-athlete in 2018.
Â
Dickens finished the season with 1,117 rushing yards, topping the previous record of 888 set by
Trent Rios in 2010 and becoming the program's first 1,000-yard rusher. These yards also led the SLC and ranked in the top 20 in the FCS.
Â
Dickens rushed for 81 yards in the first half against Central Arkansas on Nov. 10, breaking the single season record for rushing yards. He finished the game with 213 yards on the ground, marking his second 200+ yard rushing game of the season (also vs. SFA, Sept. 15, 220 yards). He was one of three SLC running backs to surpass 200 yards in a single game in 2018, and he was the only one to accomplish this feat twice.
Â
In all, Dickens registered five 100+ yard games, a new program best. He finished his career with 1,524 rushing yards, good for fourth in program history. He racked up these yards in just two years.
Â
In addition to his rushing yards, Dickens broke the single season rushing touchdown record at UCA when he scrambled for a two-yard touchdown in the third quarter. He finished the game with three touchdowns and concluded the season with 14 scores on the ground.
