Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team suffered a loss to San Diego State on Sunday afternoon at Viejas Arena in San Diego, California.
NOTABLES
- Junior forward Lunden Henry led the Cardinals in scoring, eight points, and rebounding, seven. She continues to be a menace on the offensive glass, hauling in five offensive rebounds in the loss.
- Henry leads the team with 18 offensive rebounds this season.
- Junior guard Angelica Wiggins scored seven points while leading the team with her first-ever multi block game in a UIW jersey. She finished with two blocks to help UIW achieve its season-best team total of five.
- Freshman forward Starr Omozee led the team with three steals, she's up to six on the season.
- UIW recorded 13 steals, the most it's had in a single game this season, and most since playing UMASS last season (11-29-17).
HOW IT HAPPENED
QTR 1 (13-17): UIW jumped out to a fantastic start, leading 10-5 while holding SDSU to 22 percent shooting from the field. The Aztecs went on a run to take the lead at the buzzer with a four-point advantage.
Wiggins led the team with four points along with an assist, a steal and an emphatic block in the first.
QTR 2 (15-43): The ball didn't bounce right for the Cardinals in the second frame. SDSU led by 28 going into the half.
QTR 3 (18-56): The lid stayed on the basket in the third quarter. The Cardinal defense stepped up in the third quarter, forcing 10 Aztec turnovers. But SDSU extended its lead.
QTR 4 (38-81): UIW got its offense back in the final frame, scoring 20 points. But it wouldn't be enough, as SDSU coasted on its lead to a victory.
L. Henry led the team with six points.
UP NEXT
UIW will return to the Alamo City to face Weber State on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. CT. The game will take place the night before Thanksgiving at the McDermott Center. After that, the Cardinals head back out west to face Arizona on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
