SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team battled through regulation against Lamar University, but ultimately fell 1-0 in their home match Friday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals held Lamar in check with aggressive play through the first period. Goalkeeper Sydney Huntsinger had several clutch saves, tipping Lamar shots and denying scoring opportunities. She finished with six total saves on the night. A Lamar shot blocked by the Cardinals goalkeeper hit the side post and nearly passed the goal line, but the UIW defense managed to clear the line just in time.
 
UIW entered the half 0-0, after five shots, three saves, and three strong chances off corner kicks.
 
The second half consisted of even more intensity as both teams fought for the groundbreaking goal. UIW finished with seven shots in the match, but Lamar ultimately made the shot that found the net in the 89th minute to capture a 1-0 win.
 
UP NEXT
UIW hosts its final home match of the season this weekend as they face McNeese on Oct. 14 for Senior Day. Recognition of the senior class is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. (CT), before the match's slated start time of 1 p.m. (CT).
