EL PASO, Texas – UTEP took advantage of The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team that had not played in two weeks, scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes. The Cardinals fell to the Miners, 3-0, Friday evening at University Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It took seven minutes before UTEP (2-5) scored, as Vic Bohdan picked up the ball in the box, dribbled past UIW (0-3) goalkeeper
Sydney Huntsinger for a wide-open net.
Three minutes later, the Miners scored again on another short goal, this one off the foot of the team's leading scorer, Anna Jimmerson.
UIW outshot the Miners in the opening half, 7-6, but UTEP goalkeeper, Alyssa Palacios, made all three saves.
Katrina Buck saw her first action of the season, as she started the second half. She had some bad luck, however, as Bohdan's shot hit the crossbar and dropped straight down over the line for her second goal of the night and the Miners' third in the match. Buck ended with two on six shots faced.
The Cardinals kept peppering Palacios with shots, but the netminder kept the visitors off the scoreboard.
Jade Piper and
Sam Batley had consecutive shots on goal, but were denied by Palacios.
LEADERS
Brooke Hanson led all players with five shots, while she, Piper, and Batley had two shots on goal apiece. Huntsinger (0-3) took the loss in goal as she made two saves in 45 minutes.
Bohdan was the player of the match, with two goals on three shots on goal. Jimmerson connected with both of her shot attempts. Palacios earned the win between the pipes with six saves.
