LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Trailing 2-1 midway through the second half, The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team tied the match four minutes later, then regained the lead 95 seconds later, as the Cardinals defeated New Mexico State, 3-2, Sunday afternoon from the NM State Soccer Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

UIW (1-3-0) scored its first goal of the season with a penalty kick tally from Isabel Gracia in the 22^nd minute. The score remained that way to halftime, as the Aggies outshot UIW, 5-3, in the half.

Devin Hart and the Aggies (4-4-1) answered in the second half, as the redshirt senior scored twice in a four-minute span to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Not to be outdone, UIW's Sam Batley scored the equalizer four minutes later, in the 68^th minute. Just 1:35 later, Brooke Hanson gave the Cardinals the lead for good as she scored, assisted by Isabella Beletic.

LEADERS

Batley led the Cardinals with four shots and three shots on goal, while Hanson registered three and two, respectively. Katrina Buck (1-0-0) earned her first collegiate win in her inaugural collegiate start, as she made five saves.

Hart led all players with six shots and five shots on goal for NMST. UIW did a great job holding the WAC's leading scorer, Audriana Chavez, in check, as she only had one shot in 72 minutes. Ashley Martin (0-4-0) suffered the loss in goal, as she allowed three goals and made one save.

UIW opens Southland Conference play hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. from Benson Stadium.
