Women’s Soccer Hosts Northwestern State and Central Arkansas This Weekend

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – After splitting a pair of Southland Conference matches on the road last weekend, The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team returns to Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium to host Northwestern State on Friday and Central Arkansas on Sunday. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
 
OPENING KICK
 
Northwestern State's 1-0 win in Natchitoches, La., last October evened the all-time series with the Cardinals at 1-1-0.
 
The series with the Bears is also at 1-1-0, as UCA shut out the Cardinals, 4-0, last year in Conway, Ark.

Summary: Central Arkansas had its three-game winning streak snapped by conference leader McNeese last Sunday. The Bears play at Abilene Christian Friday before facing the Cardinals. Stacia Carroll has made the most of her shots, as both of her goals have been game winners. Lauren Mercuri is fifth in the conference with a 1.24 goals-against average.

Summary: With the exception of three goals at New Mexico State and four goals at Nicholls, UIW is averaging less than a goal a game and have been shutout in all six of its losses. Sam Batley scored twice in the Cardinals' win last Friday over the Colonels and was named Honorable Mention Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
 
UP NEXT

Following Sunday's match against UCA, the Cardinals have two tough road games, beginning with the reigning SLC Tournament champions, HBU, Friday at 7 p.m. and Lamar Sunday at 1 p.m.
