Bergeron homers in Cardinals' 15-1 loss to Bearkats

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Texas– A Kyle Bergeron homerun was the lone run for the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team, as Sam Houston State handed them a convincing 15-1 defeat on Thursday evening at Don Sanders Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bearkats (34-20, 17-11 SLC) scored early and often. They out-hit the Cardinals (20-34, 8-20 SLC) 20-5 and scored in every inning they hit in, except for the seventh inning.

The Bearkats got to UIW's starter, John Shull, scoring six runs on 10 hits in three innings. They then scored three more in the fourth to take a commanding 9-0 lead. Bergeron then put the Cardinals on the board with his third homerun of the season.

SHSU responded in that bottom half of the inning with three more of their own, and later added three more in the last three innings to make it 15-1.

LEADERS

Bergeron drove in and scored the lone run for UIW, while Sean Arnold was the only Cardinal with two hits in the game.

For the Bearkats, eight hitters had at least two hits. Clayton Harp drove in four runs on two hits and Blake Chisolm drove in three runs, scored two and hit a homerun. Bryce Johnson finished with three hits, four runs and two batted in.

Shull picked up the loss for UIW, and the Bearkats' Heath Donica improved to 8-1 on the year with five innings of one run baseball. The only hit he allowed was the homerun to Bergeron. Dominic Robinson pitched four scoreless innings in relief, and got credited with his third save of the season.
