NATCHITOCHES, LA – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team split Saturday's doubleheader with Northwestern State winning the first game 9-6, and dropping the series finale 4-1.
 
The first game was a back in fourth affair in which the Cardinals were able to jump out to a 5-0 lead after two innings highlighted by an 
Alex Alonzo single that scored two runs for UIW.
 
However, the Lady Demons scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 6-5 lead after starting pitcher 
Jessica Rodriguez ran into trouble. The Cardinals tied the contest when 
Mikaela Flores doubled to right center to score 
Christy Trevino. In the sixth, Flores launched a two run shot to give UIW an 8-6 advantage.
 
The scoring concluded in the seventh inning when Alonzo singled to left field scoring Trevino to make the final 9-6.  
Sarah Leal replaced Rodriguez in the third and she was on fire going 4.1 innings and only allowing three hits while getting her second win of the season.
 
Alonzo and Flores had three RBI each while Trevino went 2-5 scoring three runs. Jordan Raines led the Lady Demons with two hits and two RBI.
 
In the second game, the Cardinals only tallied three hits at the plate and Northwestern State was able to secure the game after scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, to win the game 4-1.
 
Trevino reached on an error, which scored 
Marcela Lopez for the Cardinals only run of the contest. 
Bridget Stein is charged with the loss after going 5.0 innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits. Mikayla Brown gets her 10
th win of the season for the Lady Demons after she went the full distance allowing just three hits.

The Cardinals return home next Friday as they host Abilene Christian in a three game series starting with a double header on Friday at 4 p.m. at Cardinals Field.
