BEAUMONT, Texas–The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team took an early lead in the fifth inning, but Lamar went on to complete the three-game Southland Conference sweep with a 5-2 win Sunday afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game remained scoreless for the first four innings, until the Cardinals (13-12, 4-5 SLC) grabbed an early 1-0 lead on an unearned run.
Sean Arnold came around to score from second base on a throwing error by the pitcher.
Lamar (15-10, 4-5 SLC) responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie it at 1-1. UIW once again took the lead on an RBI single by
Bryce Shepherd, but it wouldn't last long. Lamar scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead and they would never look back. They only allowed one hit after the sixth inning and Tanner Driskill shutout the Cardinals for 4.2 innings to pick up the win.
John Shull got credited with the loss after giving up three runs in 5.2 innings.
