SAN ANTONIO – In a change of plans due to rain, the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team will now host Prairie View A&M at Sullivan Field on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

The Cardinals (2-2) opened the 2017 season in the Alamo Irish Classic where they dropped games against St. Louis, 6-3, and Notre Dame 12-10, and beat Lafayette College twice, 4-3 and 6-5. Both of the wins were in dramatic fashion. The first win came on a walk-off double from
Bryce Shepherd in the 11
th inning, and the second win was secured after
Tyler Miller escaped a bases-loaded-nobody-out jam with a 6-5 victory.

Summary
The Panthers started the season with a 5-4 win over Illinois-Chicago in the MLB Urban Youth Invitational, but then dropped the next three games against Alcorn St., New Orleans and Illinois-Chicago. They were shutout 14-0 in the game against New Orleans, and in total, they were outscored 35-9 in the opening weekend.

Summary:
Kyler Genenbacher started his collegiate career red hot, hitting .583 in the weekend. The Cardinals offense worked well in the Alamo Irish Classic, scoring 23 runs in four games. They scored nine runs in the last three innings against Notre Dame but fell short 12-10, and then won their next two games against Lafayette College.
The Cardinals bullpen looked real strong in the opening weekend. Five Cardinal relievers appeared on the weekend and did not allow a run.
Jenner Jackson pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, and
Lance Moszkowicz pitched 3.0 scoreless to earn the win in the 4-3, 11 inning victory Saturday night.
SERIES HISTORY
The Cardinals hold the lead in the series 4-1. The two teams split a doubleheader in San Antonio last season, with UIW winning 12-2 in the first game, and PVAMU taking the second one 5-1.
UP NEXT
Following Wednesday's action, the Cardinals will host Central Michigan for a four-game series this weekend. Games are scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m., a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., and a single game Sunday at 11 a.m.
