HOUSTON, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team closed out the Houston Classic with a 12-3 defeated against the host school, the University of Houston at Cougar Field on Sunday afternoon.
COUGARS SCORE FIVE RUNS IN FOURTH TO OVERTAKE UIW
The game started out well for UIW (3-7, 0-0) as they were able to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Mikaela Flores doubled to right center to kick off the scoring and
Alex Alonzo flied out to center field scoring

Houston responded with a solo homerun in the bottom of the second from Kaylin Crumpton and the Cougars got three more in the third highlighted by and two run shot from Elise Lebeouf. The Cardinals added another run in the fourth as
Delaney Guzman grounded into a double play scoring
Jill Guse to cut the Cougar lead to 4-3.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Houston offense had a big inning scoring five runs to take control of the ballgame. The Cougars added three more runs in the final two innings to take a 12-3 victory over UIW.
The Cardinals had nine hits as a team and both
Danielle Ramirez and Flores had two hits apiece to lead UIW. Arielle James and Shelby Miller each had three RBI to lead the Cougars at the plate.
Bridget Stein is charged with the loss after going 2.1 innings and allowing four earned runs on five hits. Trystan Melancon gets the victory after a strong four 4.0 innings of work allowing just three earned runs on seven hits.
