SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team hosted St. Mary's at the Clarence Mabry Tennis Center and swept them 4-0 on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Cardinals (3-5) snapped a 3-game losing streak, and they did it against DII's #23 nationally ranked Rattlers (2-2). It all started with UIW jumping ahead in the score with two wins in doubles from
Joey Vatanadilok /
Ivanhoe Lissanevitch, and
Nedim Ahmic /
Zachary Vander Heidan for the doubles point.
Needing just three singles wins to take the match, the Cardinals got them in the first three matches. Vatanadilok won 6-1, 6-3 at #2, Lissanevitch won 6-0, 6-1 at #3, and Ahmic took his match 6-2, 6-3 at #6.
Sebastian Mortier and Vander Heidan both were leading their respective matches before play ended, while
Caleb Dyer led in the second set, after dropping the first set at #5.
The Cardinals are back home tomorrow as they host Trinity University at 3 p.m.
