Imani Robinson scored 17 points and Utah transfer
Gabbi Bowie added 11 on Saturday, but the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team was unable to defeat Weber State, dropping a 79-55 decision on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals (1-4) secured an early lead when
Haley Frias knocked down a three-pointer to put UIW up, 3-2. The Wildcats (3-1) immediately responded with 9-straight points, and held a 16-10 advantage after 10 minutes of action.
Weber State continued throwing punches in the second quarter and opened the frame on a 9-2 run. The Cardinals fought back with a jumper by Bowie and layups from
Melina Merritt and Robinson, but the Wildcats closed the half on a 7-1 run to secure a 36-21 lead at the break.
UIW increased its offensive output with 14 points in the third period and 19 in the fourth, but Weber State scored 19 and 24 to pull away for the win.
THE BREAKDOWN
The Cardinals shot 28.8 percent from the floor and 23.8 percent from beyond the arc, while surrendering 49.2 percent and 45 percent to the Wildcats.
Weber State picked up a 20-5 edge on points off turnovers, a 33-18 advantage on bench points, a 34-24 edge on points in the paint and a 12-0 advantage on fast break points.
LEADERS
Robinson paced UIW with 17 points and 4 boards. Bowie scored 11 and Frias added 6 for the Cardinals.
Sydnee Wynn contributed 7 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, while
Quincy Baker added 9 boards in the loss.
Larryn Brooks led the Wildcats with 17 points and 5 rebounds.
