Volleyball Set to Face Cardinals and Islanders

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team is set to see Lamar University and Texas A&M Corpus Christi for the second time this season.  The battle of the Cardinals continues tomorrow at 7 p.m. in McDonald gym. UIW will play the Islanders on Saturday in the Dugan Wellness Center at 1 p.m.

OPENING SET

The UIW Cardinals (5-14 overall, 4-8 SLC) went five sets with Houston Baptist and came out on top in their last match.

Lamar has a 2-10 record in the Southland and are 4-18 overall. The squad suffered a four set loss to New Orleans last Saturday. Lamar registered a .421 attacking percentage in set one against the Privateers. The team also had an efficient second set with 14 kills and one error.

Texas A&M Corpus-Christi is currently tied for sixth place in the Southland with McNeese. The Islanders are 7-5 in conference play and 10-13 overall. A&M Corpus-Christi will play Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. before its matchup against UIW.

SERIES HISTORY

This will be the seventh matchup all-time between UIW and Lamar. The Cardinals defeated Lamar 3-0 in the McDermott Center on October 14. UIW leads the series with four wins over Lamar's two.

Corpus leads the series 8-1. UIW suffered a 3-0 defeat in its last meeting with the Islanders.

UP NEXT

UIW hosts Abilene Christian for another round of competition on Thursday, Nov. 9 The match will begin at 7 p.m. in the McDermott Center.

The Cardinals will return to the McDermott Center Saturday, Nov.  11 to face Sam Houston State University on Senior Day. The match will start at 11 a.m.
