SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team claimed a five set victory to give Houston Baptist its fourth conference loss of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Three attack errors made by the Huskies gave the Cardinals a 3-0 lead to open the match. UIW maintained its lead until HBU made up the deficit to even the score 12-12. The Cardinals went on a four point streak to regain their lead. Set one ended in a 25-23 win for UIW.
Much like the first, The Cardinals had an early 3-0 advantage. The Huskies got their attack going to get themselves back in the game and tie the score 15-15. UIW landed another 25-23 victory and were 2-0 going into the third.
Houston Baptist was not looking to end the match in three sets. The squad found a rhythm in the third and fourth sets and topped the Cardinals 25-18 and 25-16 respectively. The Huskies registered 15 kills and two errors for a .418 attacking percentage in the third while UIW was less efficient with 12 kills and four errors. The Cardinal attack struggled in set four as the team only mustered nine kills.
The final set started off as a battle for a win, but UIW soon found a lead and ran with it for five points to take over the set 4-10. The Cardinals closed the match with a 15-12 success over their opponent.
LEADERS
Julia Monday led the team with 15 kills and
Autumn Lockley followed with 12.
Madison Williams paced the team with 43 assists. Defensively,
Sarea Alexander tallied seven blocks and
Madelynn Miller registered 28 digs.
Jessica Wooten and Ashtyn Richey led the Huskies with 16 and 15 kills respectively.
UP NEXT
Cardinals will travel to Beaumont, Texas for another battle against Lamar. The match will take place on October 31 at 7 p.m. in McDonald gym.
