LAKE CHARLES, La. – The McNeese Cowgirls, tied for first place in the Southland Conference standings, were too much for The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team, as the Cardinals lost 7-0 Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
McNeese (11-3-1 overall, 7-1-0 SLC) scored its first goal of the match in the 18
th minute, on a header from Rachel Palet. Two minutes later, Nola Pritchett struck, as her corner kick deflected off a UIW (2-11-0, 1-7-0) defender into the goal. Havana Johnson scored the Cowgirls' third goal of the half, assisted by Alexis Miller, in the 33
rd minute.
McNeese's second-half goals came from Kayla Goedicke (58'), Morgan Middleton (60'), Mariah Ruelas (74'), and Anna Watson (82').
LEADERS
Sam Batley had both of the Cardinals' shots on goal.
Sydney Huntsinger played the first half and made five saves on seven shots.
Katrina Buck saw action in the second half and did not register a save.
Palet led McNeese with three points on a goal and an assist. Annie Bravenec earned the clean sheet with two saves.
