CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team was shutout on Friday night Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Chris Falwell, 5-0 at Chapman Field.
Falwell allowed just one lone hit to the Cardinals (13-38, 5-22), a single by
Weston Pitts in the top of the second inning. He did not walk a single batter and struck out nine in a complete game win for the Islanders (19-32, 8-20).
The Islanders took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on a leadoff home run by Dawson Yates. They added lone runs in the third and seventh innings and then put the game away with two runs in the eighth inning.
John Shull (San Antonio/Churchill HS) took the loss for the Cardinals despite pitching well. He allowed nine hits and three runs without a walk while striking out three.
A&M-Corpus Christi finished the game with 13 hits. Yates had three hits and scored two runs while Justin Perales, Brett Burner and Brian Deaver each had two hits.
The Cardinals will close out their season on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon against the Islanders.
