SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word will be bustling with activity this weekend with a variety of different sporting events.
The UIW baseball team hosts Southland Conference rival Nicholls in a three-game series at Sullivan Field. The action begins on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. and continues on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
UIW is hosting the seventh annual UIW Cardinal Track & Field Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Benson Stadium and the Northeast Throwing Area at the corner of Basse Road and McCullough. The meet begins on Friday at noon with field events and at 7:30 p.m. with distance running events. The field events continue on Saturday at 10 a.m. and the final running events start at 1 p.m. and will finish at 4 p.m.
The UIW football team is holding their annual Spring Football Game on Saturday night at 7 p.m. The game will be an offense versus defense competition played at Benson Stadium. The Cardinals will have one more week of practice following the Spring Game. The team went 6-5 and finished in fourth place in the Southland Conference last year. On Sunday, the women's and men's tennis teams will play their final home matches of the season. The women will play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 11 a.m. while the men will take on Lamar University at 2:30 p.m. at the Mabry Tennis Center.
The Cardinals baseball team is 7-22 this year with a 2-7 mark in conference play. Third baseman
Brance Kahle has led the offense with a .307 batting average, six doubles and 17 runs batted in.
Braden Martin has been hitting at the top of the order lately and has a .300 batting average. Head coach

Bernie Martinez,
John Shull and
Cody Richey to the mound as his starters for the weekend. Each pitched outstanding last week. Shull has been the top starter on the team this year with a 1-2 record, 3.99 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.
The track meet will feature a total of nine teams, including the Cardinals. Concordia-Texas, Our Lady of the Lake, St. Edward's, Southwestern, Sul Ross State, Texas Lutheran, Texas Wesleyan and Trinity are all slated to compete. The meet will have live results available (
