NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team travels to Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin for a weekend series. They will play Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Cardinals (10-27, 3-12) will attempt to get back on track after losing three in a row to Sam Houston State last weekend. The team is hitting .230 and average 3.3 runs per game.
Brance Kahle (Colleyville/Grapevine Faith HS) has driven in a team high 22 runs while
Eddy Gonzalez (Laredo/United HS) has been on a triples streak with four in the last seven games.
The UIW pitching staff has a 6.66 earned run average and opponents are hitting .324 against them. The weekend rotation is set with
Bernie Martinez (Laredo/United HS),
John Shull (San Antonio/Churchill HS) and
Cody Richey (Fair Oaks/Comfort HS) going to the mound. Martinez is 1-6 with a 6.45 ERA, Shull is 2-3 with a 4.75 ERA and Richey is 0-4 with a 7.77 ERA.
Lance Moszkowicz (Spring/Klein Collins HS) has made 21 appearances out of the bullpen and has five saves.
The Lumberjacks (17-20, 6-12) have a good hitting squad that has a .301 team batting average and are scoring 6.7 runs per game. They have six regulars hitting over .300 for the season. Connor Fikes has a .395 batting average with five triples and 23 batted in. Garrett McMullen is hitting .346 with seven homers and 33 RBI's. Kyle Thornell and Nick Ramos each have 11 doubles.
The SFA pitching staff has a 5.79 earned run average and allows opponents to hit .294. Patrick Ledet will start on Friday night and he has a 3-1 record with a 4.67 ERA. The final two starters will be determined later. Four different players have saves this year led by Tyler Starks who has three saves and a 2.14 ERA in 21.0 innings of relief. Seth Campbell is 3-0 with a 1.47 ERA in 18.1 relief innings.
