SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team will shake up their weekend schedule against visiting Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State due to weather concerns. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. and the series finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Cardinals (10-24, 3-9) have won their last two games and three of their last four. The team is hitting .232 and average 3.4 runs per game.
Braden Martin (Andrews/Andrews HS) missed the past two games with an injury, but is hitting .324.
Brance Kahle (Colleyville/Grapevine Faith HS) is batting .287 with a team high 20 runs batted in.
UIW will send out
Denson Hull (San Antonio/Churchill HS),
John Shull (San Antonio/Churchill HS) and
Cody Richey (Fair Oaks/Comfort HS) as the starting rotation this weekend. Hull is 0-1 with an 8.31 ERA and will be making his third career start. Shull is 2-2 with a 3.65 ERA in 44.1 innings of work. Richey has worked his way back into the rotation and is 0-3 with an 8.35 ERA.
Trevor Hardee (Alvord/Alvord HS) and
Lance Moszkowicz (Spring/Klein Collins HS) are the top relievers on the squad. Hardee is 2-0 with two saves and a 3.55 ERA while Moszkowicz is 1-3 with five saves and a 3.60 ERA.
The Bearkats (18-16, 11-4) have a team batting average of .274 and average 5.4 runs per game. Bryce Johnson leads the offense with a .365 average, 30 runs, eight doubles and 14 stolen bases. Zach Smith has 11 doubles and a .321 batting average. The SHSU rotation is set for Heath Donica (5-2, 4.21 ERA), Sam Odom (4-0, 2.61 ERA) and Riley Gossett (3-0, 3.55 ERA) to take the rubber in the three games.
