SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team plays a pair of mid-week contests.  They make the short trip to UTSA on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. game and then host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday for a non-conference game at 6:30 p.m.

The Cardinals (8-24) enter the week hitting .231 as a team while scoring 3.3 runs per game.  Braden Martin (Andrews/Andrews HS) and Brance Kahle (Colleyville/Grapevine Faith HS) have been the top two hitters on the team this year.  Martin is hitting .324 with 10 runs and four doubles.  Kahle is hitting .303 with a team high six doubles and 20 runs batted in.  He has also been outstanding of defense committing just two errors in 62 chances at third base.

The UIW pitching staff has a 6.28 earned run average and opponents are hitting .311 against them.  John Shull (San Antonio/Churchill HS) has been the top pitcher on the team this year.  He has won his last two starts and is now 2-2 with a 3.65 ERA in 44.1 innings.  He leads the team with 31 strikeouts.  Trevor Hardee (Alvord/Alvord HS) and Lance Moszkowicz (Spring/Klein Collins HS) have combined for 33 relief appearances and 56.2 innings of work and the top two arms out of the bullpen.

The Roadrunners (12-19) are hitting .269 and average 5.2 runs per game.  Jason Serchay leads the team with a .324 batting average while Tyler Straub and C.J. Pickering have each driven in over 20 runs.  Mason George has slashed 12 doubles.  The pitching staff has a 6.13 ERA led by weekend starter Aaron Burns who is 3-3 with a 3.96 ERA.

The Islanders (11-20) are a member of the Southland Conference, but this will be a non-conference matchup between the two teams.  They are hitting .260 and averaging 4.4 runs per game.  Zack Gibson, Zacarias Hardy and Casey Thomas are each hitting over .335.  Gibson has five triple, five homers and 21 batted in while Hardy has three homeruns and 25 runs batted in.  The pitching staff has a 4.48 ERA.  Chris Falwell has been the top pitcher on the team with a 2.13 ERA, but only a 1-3 record in 50.2 innings.  He has also struck out 56 batters.
