HOUSTON, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team lost their season finale on the road at Southland Conference rival Houston Baptist University despite 23 points from senior
Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) on Saturday.
The Huskies (14-14, 9-9) scored the first nine points of the game at Sharp Gymnasium. The Cardinals (6-23, 3-15) pulled to within two points midway through the second quarter, but HBU closed the period on a 15-1 run to take a 32-16 lead at the halftime break.
In the second half, the Cardinals never got closer than 11 points. The played better than in the first half, but were unable to seriously threaten the Huskies who controlled the game thanks to the strong play of Monet Neal and Anna Strickland. Neal finished with 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor. Strickland had 20 points, 21 rebounds, five assists and three steals.
UIW shot 37.7 percent from the field, made 1-of-7 from three-point range and were 5-for-10 at the foul line. Adams was the only player on the team to score in double figures. She finished her career with 23 points and three steals on 10-of-19 shooting from the field. They had 27 rebounds and committed 19 turnovers.
The Huskies shot 51.0 percent from the field, made 2-of-5 from three-point range and were 10-for-23 from the foul line. They had 42 rebounds and committed 19 turnovers. They outscored the Cardinals, 48-20 on points in the paint.
