SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team will attempt to get back on track on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. when they host UT Rio Grande Valley at Sullivan Field.

The Cardinals (5-19) have lost their last four games, all on the road, but are 5-4 at home this season.  The team is averaging a little over three runs per game and have a .218 batting average.  Braden Martin (Andrews/Andrews HS) leads the squad with a .308 batting average.  Shortstop Bryce Shepherd (Coldspring/Coldspring-Oakhurst HS) has been on a hot streak lately and has raised his average to .269 and he leads the team with 12 runs and five doubles while playing excellent defense.

Cody Allen (Bulverde/Smithson Valley HS) is expected to get the start on the mound for UIW.  He has made eight appearances out of the bullpen and has a 4.15 earned run average in 13.0 innings of work.  Overall, the team has a 7.13 ERA and opponents are hitting .320.

The Vaqueros (10-10) have also struggled on the road this year with a 1-7 mark away from home.  They are hitting .270 as a team and score five runs per contest.  Jose Garcia and Joseph Collazo have led the offense.  Garcia is hitting .400 with a .500 slugging percentage and 10 runs batted in while Collazo is hitting .366 with 22 runs scored.

UTRGV is sending Justin Quinonez to the mound.  He has made four appearances and one start this season.  He has a 3.00 ERA and one save in 12.0 innings.  The Vaqueros have a 3.73 team earned run average and opponents are hitting .281 against them.
