DALLAS, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team dropped a non-conference game against #28 Dallas Baptist University, 17-1 on Tuesday at Horner Ballpark.
The Cardinals (5-16) ran into a sizzling hot Patriots' offense that included a 5-for-5, four home run, seven RBI night for first baseman Darick Hall. DBU (14-6) out hit UIW, 23-4 and scored in every inning except for the third inning. They hit 11 extra base hits, including six home runs.
Bryce Shepherd (Coldspring/Coldspring-Oakhurst HS) was the only Cardinal with a multi-hit game and scored the only run for the Cardinals with a 2-for-3 night, including a double.
Brance Kahle (Colleyville/Grapevine Faith HS) and
Austin Hoffman (Goodyear, AZ/Millenium HS) collected the other hits for the Cardinals, and Hoffman drove in Shepherd with a single to left field in the sixth inning.
UIW sent seven pitchers to the mound with the starter
Jake Bedevian (Houston/Second Baptist School) taking the loss. The Patriots used six pitchers and starter Jordan Martinson picked up the win for DBU.
The Cardinals will get back in action this weekend in a three-game non-conference matchup at UT-Arlington starting on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
