SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The second week of the season in Southland Conference baseball action pits the University of the Incarnate Word against visiting McNeese State University for three games on Friday (3:00 p.m.), Saturday (3:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.) at Sullivan Field.
The Cardinals (4-13, 0-3) are looking for their first Southland Conference victory of the season. The offense is scoring a little under four runs per game. Third baseman
Brance Kahle (Colleyville/Grapevine Faith HS) is the big bat in the lineup with a .300 batting average and 12 RBI's.
Braden Martin (Andrews/Andrews HS) has worked his way into the lineup recently and is hitting .353 with a .476 on-base percentage.
The pitching rotation for the Cardinals this weekend will be
Bernie Martinez (Laredo/United HS),
John Shull (San Antonio/Churchill HS) and
Tyler Lesley (San Antonio/Brandeis HS). Martinez is 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 22.0 innings. Shull is 0-1 with a 5.50 ERA and leads the team with 21 strikeouts. Lesley is 2-2 with a 7.30 ERA in 12.1 innings.
Lance Moszkowicz (Spring/Klein Collins HS) is the team's stud in the bullpen with a 0.56 ERA in 16.0 innings of work. He is holding opponents to a .132 batting average.
The Cowboys (8-8, 1-2) have an offense that is hitting .285 and scores nearly six runs per game. Lewis Guilbeau leads the team with a .400 batting average while Connor Crane is hitting .355 with three homers and 15 RBI's. Shane Selman has smacked four home runs and has a .607 slugging percentage.
McNeese State will be sending out Kaleb Fontenot, Bryan King and Austin Sanders as their starting rotation. Fontenot is 1-2 with a 3.04 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 23.2 innings. King is 1-0 in four starts with a 3.00 ERA and 19 strikeouts while Sanders is 1-2 with a 7.11 earned run average. Collin Kober has recorded three saves in four relief appearances.
