SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team will look to end a 10-game losing streak when they host Prairie View A&M for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 2:00 p.m. at Sullivan Field.
The Cardinals (3-12) are coming back from a tough eight-game road trip in which they faced #22 Oklahoma State, Texas State and the 2015 Southland Conference champions, Southeastern Louisiana. UIW is hitting .211 as a team and scoring 3.3 runs per game.
Tanner Wall (San Antonio/Johnson HS) leads the team with a .345 batting average and
Ryan Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Carroll HS) leads the team with 13 hits. Christian DIvelbiss (Yuba City, CA/Yuba City HS) is the top RBI man with a total of 10, including his first homerun of the season last Sunday.
Bryce Shepherd (Coldspring/Coldspring-Oakhurst HS) has a .339 on-base percentage and leads the team with nine runs scored.
The Cardinals pitching staff has a 6.73 ERA and the top two relief pitchers are
Cody Allen (Bulverde/Smithson Valley HS) and
Lance Moszkowicz (Spring/Klein Collins HS). Allen has yet to allow a run in his 8.1 innings of work and Moszkowicz has a 0.66 ERA in 13.2 innings and has complied 11 strikeouts.
Denson Hull (San Antonio/Churchill HS) has been announced as the starter for game one which will be his third start of the season, while the game two starter is to be announced.
The Panthers (5-8) are coming off a Southwestern Athletic Conference series split with Southern University since the first of three was postponed due to inclement weather. As a team they are hitting .254 and averaging 5.2 runs per game. One of their top hitters, Angle Avalos, is hitting .326 and leads the team with 15 hits, including three doubles and a homerun. Nick Gurka leads the way with 10 RBI while hitting .351 in 37 at-bats.
Their pitching staff has a 7.33 ERA and their top pitcher, Darrien Williams, is 2-1 in two starts and is scheduled to take the mound in the first game. He has a 3.68 ERA in 14.2 innings pitched. Edgar Sanchez leads the team with 27.2 innings of work, compiling a 5.68 ERA.
