Box Score 2 HAMMOND, LOUISIANA – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team dropped a pair of road games to Southeastern Louisiana, 4-2 and 9-0 in a Southland Conference doubleheader on Sunday.
The Lions (10-6, 3-0) completed the three game sweep of the Cardinals (3-12, 0-3) and kept them off the board in two of the three games. They outscored UIW, 24-2 in the series.
In game one, the Lions took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Cardinals tied it up with a run in the second and another in the third.
Christian Divelbiss (Yuba City, CA/Yuba City HS) and
Austin Hoffman (Goodyear, AZ/Millenium HS) collected the only RBI's for UIW on the weekend. Divelbiss hit his first homerun of the season in a losing effort.
The Lions' Payton Robinson picked up the win in relief. He pitched three scoreless innings allowing just one walk and he struck out one batter.
John Shull (San Antonio/Churchill HS) took the loss after allowing four runs in 3.2 innings of work.
Lance Moszkowicz (Spring/Klein Collins HS) came in relief and was very dominant. He completed 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out three.
In game two, Domenick Carlini kept the Cardinals in check as he pitched six scoreless innings allowing three hits while striking out eight Cardinals to earn his second win of the season. For the Cardinals, Tyler Lesely (San Antonio/Brandeis HS) took the loss in the 9-0 defeat. The Cardinals did have a bright spot in the loss.
Cody Allen (Bulverde/Smithson Valley HS) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings only allowing one hit and no walks.
Brance Kahle (Colleyville/Grapevine Faith HS) and
Eddy Gonzalez (Laredo/United HS) were the only Cardinals to reach base more than once in the game. Kahle went 1-for-1 and walked twice while Gonzalez was 1-for-1 with a walk.
The Cardinals are back at home Tuesday after playing eight straight games on the road. They will host Prairie View A&M for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. at Sullivan Field.
