SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word will be hosting Lamar University on Saturday in a Southland Conference basketball doubleheader. The women's game starts at 2 p.m. followed by the men's game at 4:30 p.m. The men's game will be televised on Time Warner Cable Sportschannel 825.
The women's game is senior day for the Cardinals (6-20, 3-12). They will be honoring
Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS),
Breanna Birmingham (Battle Creek, MI/Harper Creek HS),
Shanise Brooks (Topeka, KS/Highland Park HS) and
Yvonne Maosa (Arlington/Mansfield HS).
UIW enters the game averaging 57.8 points per game and shooting 39.0 percent from the field while holding opponents to 64.9 points per game and 42.6 percent shooting. Adams is the team's leading scorer at 12.9 points per game and
Brianna Williams (Wylie/Mesquite HS) chips in 11.8 points per game. Maosa is the third leading scorer and top rebounder with 9.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
Lamar (10-17, 6-10) enters the weekend averaging 68.0 points per game and shooting 36.9 percent from the field and they allow 69.4 points per game and 41.8 percent shooting. Addesha Collins leads the team with 15.7 points per game and has gone to the foul line 170 times this year. Kiara Desmours is the top rebounder on the squad with 7.2 per game as well as 10.8 points per game. Chastadie Barrs does a little bit of everything with 9.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 4.2 steals per game.
The UIW men are 14-11 overall and 9-5 in the Southland Conference. They are scoring 73.1 points per game and giving up 73.2 points per game. The team is shooting 43.0 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from three-point range.
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) leads the way with 15.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
Derail Green (Houston/Klein Forest HS) and
Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) are both averaging over 12 points per game. Walker also leads the nation in free throw shooting at 94.3 percent.
The Lamar Cardinals (11-16, 3-12) Lamar enters the week with an 11-16 record and 3-12 mark in the conference. LU has been outscored by a total of seven points this year, but they are 1-10 in games decided by 10 points or less. They lost to UIW, 74-71 on February 6.
Lamar is led by Nick Garth who is averaging 14.1 points per game and has made 62 three-pointers. Kevin Booze chips in with 9.1 points and 4.3 assists per game.
