UIW Closes Home Stand Saturday Against TAMIU

The game will be televised live on Spectrum Sports Texas and online on ESPN3

San Antonio, Texas – The UIW men's basketball team concludes their three-game home stand with a Saturday night matchup against Texas A&M International. First tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be shown live on Spectrum Sports Texas, Channel 323. Fans outside of the San Antonio region can watch the game on ESPN3.
 
OPENING TIP
 
TAMIU leads the all-time series, 16-13, but UIW has won four straight. Similar to the last game against Texas Lutheran, Saturday's contest will be an exhibition for TAMIU, which competes in Division II's Heartland Conference.

Summary: TAMIU has won three of its last four, following a 73-56 win over Huston-Tillotson last Saturday. The Dustdevils are led in scoring by Denzel Bellot with 12.5 points per game, followed closely by Bunja Yaboe with 10.5. Yaboe leads the team with 24 blocked shots per game (T-19th nationally) and is tied with Jordan VanDeKop with 5.6 rebounds per contest.

Summary: UIW used a record-setting performance from Devin Wyatt and solid shooting from all around as the Cardinals won their second-straight game, 78-71, over Texas Lutheran Wednesday night. Wyatt posted his first double-double as a member of the Cardinals and finished three rebounds shy of a triple-double, as he had 12 points, seven rebounds, and a school record 10 blocked shots. Shawn Johnson registered his third double-double of the season - and the seventh in his career - with 16 points and a career-tying 15 rebounds. Jalin Hart and Tyler Singleton each scored a team-best 17 points, as UIW as a team shot 47 percent from the floor.
 
On the season, S. Johnson is second in the Southland Conference in both points (18.7 per game) and rebounding (9.4). He is third with a 54.4 field-goal percentage. Thanks to his performance against TLU, Wyatt is tied for the conference lead with 3.4 blocks per game and is 8th nationally. Hart leads the SLC - and is 6th nationally - in steals (2.9 per game) and is fourth in the SLC in assists (4.7). As a team, UIW is shooting 44 percent from the floor compared to 43 percent for the opposition.

UIW opens a season-long five-game road swing next Wednesday, Dec. 14 at UNLV at 9 p.m. central time. The game will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network.
