UIW Makes a Difference Through Southland Gives Back Efforts

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word athletic department and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee recently took time out of their busy schedule to collect canned goods as part in the annual Southland Gives Back community service project.

Cardinals from all 23 sports came together to participate in the second annual canned food field day. Donations of canned goods were collected for the San Antonio Food Bank, which strives to fight hunger in Southwest Texas through food distribution, programs, education and advocacy.

This year UIW collected nearly 1,000 pounds of canned goods for the local community. Those goods will be distributed to more than 530 partner agencies in 16 counties throughout the region. In 2015, the San Antonio Food Bank provided nearly 62 million pounds of food.
