San Antonio, Texas – Junior guard
Shawn Johnson scored a game-high 23 points and was one of four Cardinals to score in double figures as UIW men's basketball ended their three-game home stand on a positive note, 83-68, over Texas A&M International Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
TAMIU (6-4) led by four, two minutes into the game, but UIW (5-3) took control the remainder of the game. Trailing 10-9, UIW used a 25-6 run to take a 24-16 lead midway through the opening half.
The Dustdevils pulled to within three, but the Cardinals outscored the visitors 17-6 to take a 14-point lead with 2:36 remaining. Kamari Robinson scored an unconventional three-point play to keep the TAMIU deficit at 14, 47-23, at the break.
UIW never led by fewer than 15 in the second half, as a pair of
Jerred Kite free throws at the 9:37-mark gave the Cardinals their largest lead of the game, 66-45.
