SAN ANTONIO, TX –
Bryaunea Hall had a career night on Tuesday as the University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team was unable to defeat Texas A&M – Corpus Christi at the McDermott Center. The Cardinals attack played very well, but the team could not overcome 62 kills from the Islanders to drop the match 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Islanders grabbed an early lead in the first set and never looked back. The Cardinals played well with 12 kills, but they could not slow down the A&M – Corpus Christi attacked which had 15 kills in the set with a .393 attacking percentage in the 25-21 victory. Morgan Carlson led the Islanders with five kills while
Autumn Lockley led the Cardinals with four.
In the second frame, UIW had one of their best sets of the season offensively. The Cardinals had 13 kill with a .579 attacking percentage to overpower the Islanders in a 25-18 set win for UIW. Hall led the Cardinals with five kills in the period.
The Cardinals had a 16-11 advantage midway through the third, but A&M – Corpus Christi was able to mount a comeback and win the set 25-22 with five kills from Brittany Gilpin. UIW had a .353 hitting percentage for the set, but the Islanders had 19 kills and only four errors.
In the final period, the Islanders once again could not be stopped on the attack. The team posted 15 kills with a .312 attacking percentage on their way to the 25-21 win, and 3-1 match victory.
LEADERS
Hall paced the Cardinals with a match high 19 kills and a season high .593 attacking percentage. Lockley added 12 kills and
Shaina Garza had eight. Both
Madison Williams and
Sierra Moses had 22 assists and Williams had 10 digs as well.
Claudia Hernandez had a team high 15 digs. The Cardinals had 49 kills as a team with a .315 hitting percentage.
Morgan Carlson led the Islanders with 17 kills and a .577 attacking percentage. Gilpin finished with 15 kills and 12 digs while Kristyn Nicholson led the team with 36 assists.
