SAN ANTONIO, TX –
Autumn Lockley leads the University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team to their sixth Southland Conference victory of the season against Nicholls on Thursday night at the McDermott Center. The Cardinals defeated the Colonels in four sets and now have the opportunity to finish the season with a 6-6 record at home.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals came out attacking in the opening set and overpowered Nicholls from the start. UIW had 18 kills with a .371 attacking percentage in the first and
Bryaunea Hall set the tone early with four kills to get the Cardinal attack going.
It was much of the same in the second frame. The Cardinals were able to get a 19-13 advantage midway through the set and hold off a Nicholls's comeback attempt to win the set 25-22. UIW posted 17 kills with a .308 hitting percentage in the period.
Nicholls responded in the third and UIW could not overcome eight attacking errors as the Colonels won their only set of the night with a 25-21 win to tighten the match score to 2-1.
However, in the fourth period, the Cardinals were able to capitalize on 10 attacking errors from the Colonels and they would go on to win the set 25-19 and get their 10
th victory of the season.
LEADERS
Lockley led the Cardinals with 17 kills and she also had 12 digs for yet another double-double.
Sarea Alexander had a great night with 13 kills and a season high .632 attacking percentage to go along with three block assists. Hall added nine kills while
Emily Waller pitched in seven.
Sierra Moses led the Cardinals with 22 assists and
Madison Williams finished with 14 and eight digs.
Shaina Garza had a team high 17 digs and
Claudia Hernandez added 15.
Stephanie Tobison led the Colonels with 15 kills and Kaci Eaton contributed 14. Jade piper had a team high 18 assists while Kali Schwartz led the team with 14 digs.
