San Antonio, Texas – Senior safety
Trey Colbert put his name in the UIW football record books as he blocked two punts, but the Cardinals dropped a 42-19 decision to visiting Stephen F. Austin Saturday night at Benson Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIW drew first blood thanks to Colbert's first blocked punt of the evening, as
LaDarian McFarland scooped up the ball to the SFA 15 yard line. The Cardinals were unable to reach the end zone, but
Cody Seidel's 24 yarder split the uprights for a 3-0 lead.
The two teams entered halftime with SFA leading 14-3 thanks to a pair of touchdown runs by quarterback Zach Conque.
The Cardinals chipped in the SFA lead on a Seidel 19-yard field goal, which happened due to Colbert's second blocked punt, as his fingers just got enough of the ball to send it sailing out of bounds for only a two-yard punt.
Late in the third quarter, it looked like the Lumberjacks were going to have a long touchdown run from Joshawa West, but UIW's
Jeilyn Williams' right arm tomahawked the ball out of West's arms and
Robert Hayes, Jr. recovered at their own five yard line.
After a pair of long touchdown passes to increase SFA's lead, the Cardinals got into the end zone as
Jordan Hicks caught
Taylor Laird's pass for an 11-yard score.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH LARRY KENNAN
"I'm really disappointed in the way we played tonight. We made a lot of mistakes. This isn't just about the players not doing well, or the coaches not doing well. We all suffer from something like this, and we need to figure out as a coaching staff what to do to get things right, and the players need to do it right.
"One thing I know about this coaching staff is that we always try until we get it right. At this point, I feel bad we lost the game, but we are going to bounce back and get ready to play Southeastern Louisiana next weekend."
QUOTES FROM SENIOR SAFETY TREY COLBERT ON HIS BLOCKED PUNTS
"It's all because of practice. We do that in practice all the time. So all I did was what I do in practice and brought it to the game.
"Special teams affect the game a lot. We didn't get the result we wanted, but what I focus on is special teams so what I try to do is show people how important special teams are. The two blocks tonight gave us great field position and led to points. So as you saw tonight, special teams were very important tonight."
