HAMMOND, LA – Fresh off Southland Conference player of the week honors,
Bryaunea Hall leads the University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team to their third consecutive five set victory in a win over Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday night at the University Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The UIW attack came out firing and the Cardinals (8-13, 4-5 SLC) cruised early winning the first two sets to open the match. In the first set, the Cardinals had 14 kills and
Shaina Garza led the team with five in the 25-19 set victory. In the second Frame, the Cardinals posted a .318 attacking percentage and the Lions were unable to slow down the UIW attack on their way to a 25-17 defeat.
However, Southeastern Louisiana came out and won the third and fourth set to tie the match at 2-2 after falling behind early. In the third,
Autumn Lockley had a team high five kills and Hall added four.
In the fourth set, UIW could not slow down Elyssa Purcell who had six kills in the set leading the Lions to a 25-23 win. For the Cardinals, Hall had four of the team's 11 kills and
Claudia Hernandez had six digs to pace the UIW defense.
In the pivotal fifth set, the Cardinals had eight kills and just one error, as they were able to defeat Southeastern Louisiana 15-10 in the final frame to win their third straight match.
LEADERS
Lockley led the Cardinals with 15 kills and she notched another double-double with 12 digs while Hall had 14 kills and a .407 attacking percentage. Garza added 10 kills and
Sarea Alexander finished with nine kills and nine total blocks.
Sierra Moses led the team with 28 assists and
Madison Williams added 19. Hernandez had a team high 21 digs and the Cardinals finished with 57 kills as a team with a .252 attacking percentage.
Purcell had a monster match for the Lions with a team high 15 kills, 21 assists, and 14 digs. Savannah Alcazar finished with 11 kills and a .476 attacking percentage. Haley Backer had a team high 22 assists and 15 digs.
