NEW ORLEANS, LA – 
Sarea Alexander and 
Autumn Lockley led the University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team to their fourth straight victory in a win over New Orleans on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals defeated the Privateers in three sets and they now have a 5-5 record in Southland Conference matches.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The first set was closely contested and featured 11 lead changes and 19 ties. The Cardinals (9-13, 5-5) biggest lead during the opening frame was three points and the turning point came after a New Orleans timeout when the score was tied 25-25. Coming out of the timeout, UIW was able to pull ahead with a powerful kill from 
Emily Waller and the Cardinals were able to win the set 27-25 on an attacking error from the Privateers.   
 
In the second, the Cardinals took an early lead and cruised to a 25-18 victory behind a .375 attacking percentage as a team. UIW had 15 kills and only three errors during the set.
 
The final set was one of the best of the season for the UIW attack. The Cardinals had 17 kills in the period with a .394 hitting percentage and only four errors. The set was tied at 20-20; however, UIW was able to score four out of the final six points to win the set 25-22.
 
LEADERS
 
Lockley led the Cardinals with 15 kills and a .387 attacking percentage while Alexander added 11 kills and a season high .846 hitting percentage. 
Bryaunea Hall also played well with six kills and four block assists. 
Sierra Moses led the Cardinals with 17 assists and 
Madison Williams had 12. 
Cameron Edwards led the defense with 10 digs. As a team, the Cardinals had 43 kills and a .352 attacking percentage.
 
For New Orleans, Brianna Vega led the team with nine kills while Kaitlyn Grice had seven. Sarah Thomas directed the Privateer attack with 31 assists while Blessing Dunn led the team with 10 digs.

The Cardinals return home to the McDermott Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they take on UT-Rio Grande Valley in the final non-conference matchup of the season.
