BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A first half goal gave CSU Bakersfield a 1-0 Western Athletic Conference victory against the University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team at Main Soccer Field Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals (3-6-2, 1-2-1 WAC) outshot the Roadrunners (4-9, 2-3 WAC) 18-4 in the game but could not get past the goal, thanks in big part to goalkeeper Nicolas Clever, who came up with five saves for his first clean sheet of the season. Mamadou Balde scored the game winner in the 39
th minute with a blast from a distance that went off UIW goalie,
Jorge Guzman, and found the back of the net.
LEADERS
Ben Conway fired five shots, to lead UIW's offense, which was more than the Roadrunners' four total shots. Two of his shots were on goal but saved by Clever.
Fernando Laverde took three shots for UIW, but also without any luck.
For the Roadrunners, Balde scored his second goal of the season after coming in as a sub. Four different Runners collected one shot apiece.
GOALKEEPER DECISION
The Cardinals'
Jorge Guzman played all 90 minutes, while allowing one goal and coming up one save, while the Roadrunners' Clever collected his first shutout of the season with five saves on the night.
