SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word Women's soccer team will be traveling to Houston for a match against the University on Houston on Friday at 7 p.m. They will return to play at home against Baylor on Sunday in Benson Stadium at 1 p.m.
This will be the first time that the Cardinals face the Houston Cougars in program history. The match against Baylor will be streamed live via
http://portal.stretchinternet.com/uiw/. In last year's match against the Bears, UIW could not come together and fell, 5-0.
The Cardinals (2-2) are fighting to get back on the winning track after dropping two games at home this past weekend. UIW fell against the University of North Texas, 2-0 and then to Prairie View A&M, 3-2. UIW is led by junior midfielder
Abigail Koenigs (San Antonio/Brandeis HS) who has scored three goals on the season. Seniors
Heather Kowalik (Boerne/Champion HS) and
Karly Brightwell (Houston/Elkins HS) have split time in goal for the team. They have combined on a pair of shutouts this year.
The Houston Cougars (0-3) have started off their season a little slow. They suffered three consecutive losses, with the final two on the road. The first game of the season was against Texas State, 2-0. The Cougars suffered losses at University of Utah, 4-1, and Utah State, 2-0.
The Baylor Bears (0-4) have struggled to put points on the scoreboard to start the year. They have had a difficult schedule with games against San Francisco, Michigan State, Purdue and Indiana. McKenna Martin, Sarah King and Amanda Hoglund have scored the team's three goals this year. They will be playing in Huntsville, TX against Sam Houston State on Friday before driving out to San Antonio to face the Cardinals.
