Tulsa Blanks UIW

LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team was dealt a 4-0 defeat on Saturday night at the University of Tulsa.

The Hurricane (8-0) took control of the game from the beginning. They peppered Karly Brightwell (Houston/Elkins HS) with shots throughout the contest.  They scored in 18th minute when Tana Dake gave Tulsa the lead by blasting a shot from 20 yards out in the middle of the field after running around the UIW defense.  The Cardinals (2-6) managed one shot in the first half while Brightwell kept the team in the game with five saves.

Early into the second half, Tulsa's Claire Maris found the ball from 12 yards out and slipped it out of reach of Brightwell for a goal in the 49th minute.  Less than 45 seconds later, Caitlin Jancuska put the Hurricane up 3-0 by firing one from outside the box into the left corner of the goal.  Tulsa closed the match in the 62nd minute when Roman Edwards took on Brightwell from 10 yards out and finished to the post.

The tournament host took a total of 29 shots, with 16 being on target. Brightwell finished the game with 11 saves and her second complete game of the season.  As a whole defense, UIW faced 29 shots.

The Cardinals will return home for the beginning of Southland Conference play against the Houston Baptist Huskies on Friday, September 18, at 5 P.M. in Benson Stadium.
