Cardinals Ready to Get Back on Track

TULSA, OKLAHOMA – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team will be playing in their last two games before Southland Conference play this weekend.
The Cardinals (2-4-0) will be traveling to Oklahoma for a pair of matches in Tulsa.  UIW will first face the Eagles of Oral Roberts on Friday at 7 P.M.  They will play Tulsa on Saturday at 7 P.M.

The Cardinals got tripped up in both matches this past weekend at University of Houston and home against Baylor University.  They fell to the UH Cougars 4-0 before dropping another to Baylor, 7-1.  Freshman Emily Halal (Katy/Cinco Ranch HS) scored the only goal for the Cardinals this weekend in the second half against the Baylor Bears. She controlled the ball from outside the 18 yard box and fired one to the inside of top corner.  Karly Brightwell (Houston/Elkins HS) and Heather Kowalik (Boerne/Champion HS) combined for 19 total saves, with six against UH and 13 against Baylor.

This will be the second time that the Cardinals face the ORU Eagles (2-1-2) since 2013.  In their last encounter, the Cardinals won 1-0.  Kayla Keller leads the team with five total points on the season and is tied with Ashley Martin with two goals apiece.  The team has had 11 different players score a goal this year.  Sam Forgione has dished out three assists.  Maddie Rhodes and Ryliegh Bohnenstiehl have split the minutes in goal for the season.

The Tulsa Hurricane are currently sporting a 6-0 record for the season, which is the best start in Tulsa school history. They lost their first exhibition game against Texas A&M 2-1, but have put everyone else on halt. All together, the Hurricane have collected four consecutive shutouts and outscored the opposition, 15-1. Christina Holmes leads the team with four goals while Rachel Thun has three goals and four assists.  Courtney McKeon and Rebecca Defer have shared time in goal.  They will first play Indiana State on Friday at 7:30 P.M.
