SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team plays their final game of the season Saturday at home. They tip-off against Southland Conference rival Houston Baptist at 2 p.m. in the McDermott Center.
With no senior class members in the squad, the match up will not follow the usual tradition of celebrating Senior night, however it will mark the end of the 2014-15 season.
The Cardinals will be looking to use the home advantage to even the season series against the Huskies who won the first meeting, 67-64 on February 19 in Houston. With a 5-23 record overall and 2-15 mark in the conference, UIW is averaging a total of 57.6 points per game and are shooting 38.6 percent from the field.
Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) leads the team with an average of 13.1 points, while
Yvonne Maosa (Mansfield/Mansfield HS) posts 9.6 points per game and an average of 7.0 rebounds per game.
The Huskies (11-17, 5-12) have followed a similar path to the Cardinals this season and will be heading into the game on the back of three-game losing streak. They have three players averaging double figures for points per game. Shanice Steenholdt leads the team with 17.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, but has missed the last 12 games with an injury. Overall, they are scoring 66.1 points per game and shooting 43.8 percent from the field.
