Utah Valley Tops Cardinals, 4-1

OREM, UTAH – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team could not stop Utah Valley's high-powered offense and dropped a Western Athletic Conference matchup 4-1 Thursday night at Clyde Field.

The Wolverines (13-4-1, 6-2-1) wasted no time to bring their high intensity.  They took control of the Cardinals (8-7, 4-5) right from the get go as they scored three goals in the first half and outshot UIW, 10-2 in the first 45 minutes.

Skyler Milne opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he deflected a direct kick and headed the ball in with his back to the goal for his eighth goal of the season. Paul Hoffmeister added to the lead with a goal in the 28th minute and Donnett Sackie scored his first of the season in the 42nd to give the Wolverines a comfortable 3-0 lead going into halftime.

Dylan Kelly (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic HS) gave the Cardinals hope in the 53rd minute when he scored his fifth goal of the season with Noah Keats (Exeter, Eng./The King's School) and O'Neal Moore (Houston/Alief Taylor HS) getting assists on the play.  The goal would end up as the only shot UIW took in the entire second half.

Austin Buxton then put the game away in the 63rd minute with his sixth goal of the season and the definitive 4-1 lead keeping their hopes of taking the top seed in the WAC still alive.  They will need UIW to defeat or tie against Seattle for them to jump over them in the standings.

The Cardinals will look to get back on track and finish the season with a strong performance against the top team in the WAC, Seattle.  The game will be at Seattle's Championship Field on Sunday at 3 p.m.
