SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team was shut out by Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin on Sunday at Benson Stadium, 2-0.
The game started with light rain and moderate wind. The Ladyjacks (8-6-2, 7-0-2) jumped onto the scoreboard less than two minutes after the opening whistle. Amanda Doyle received a ball on the right side of the field that she dribbled into the box. She crossed it on the ground to find Hanna Barker running to goal from the penalty line and she finished it to the left post.
The Cardinals (3-11-2, 1-5-2) woke up after the goal and attempted to pressure SFA with their offense. The Cardinals had three shots on goal and six total shots in the first half, while the Ladyjacks had two on target out of seven.
The Cardinals gained the wind advantage in the second half and ran pressured better down the field. However, SFA finalized the score in the 55
th minute. Breanna Moore pounced on a loose ball inside the box and slotted it home for a goal.
UIW defender
Allison Crabbe (Finksburg, MD/ Westminster) kept the Cardinals in the game in the final 20 minutes when she made two crucial saves off the goal line when a corner kick led to a header and a shot in less than eight seconds. The Ladyjacks attempted 12 corner kicks in the game while the Cardinals did not earn any corner kicks.
Due to rain and potential flooding, the Cardinals' Friday game was rescheduled for Tuesday. Incarnate Word will be taking on Sam Houston State at 7 p.m. for the last home game of the season. On the road, UIW will play Abilene Christian on Friday at 7 p.m. The Cardinals honored their four seniors prior to the game against SFA.
