SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – With storms looming this weekend, the University of the Incarnate Word made the decision to postpone their Friday night women's soccer game against Sam Houston State University. The game will now played on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Benson Stadium.
The Cardinals (3-11-2, 1-5-2) are still planning to celebrate Senior Day on Sunday when they take on Stephen F. Austin at 1 o'clock. UIW has played better defense lately allowing just six goals in their last six games, all in Southland Conference play. One of the big moves of the season was to put freshman
Sydney Huntsinger (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) in as the starting goalkeeper and she has responded with a 0.61 goals against average and 8.6 saves per game.
The UIW offense is still struggling to score with just 12 goals on the season and just one in the last five games.
Abigail Koenigs (San Antonio/Brandeis HS) and
Emani Stewart (Victorville, CA/Hesperia HS) each have four goals to lead the team.
The Cardinals have given the first place LadyJacks difficult games in each of the past two years with a tie and a one-goal loss. SFA has played 29 consecutive conference regular season matches without a loss and are 6-0-2 this year. Amanda Doyle is the team's top scorer with seven goals and two assists while Hanna Barker has chipped in with two goals and five assists. Lillie Ehlert has started 14-of-15 games in goal for the team and has a 1.16 goals against average with 70 saves and two shutouts.
The Bearkats (7-6-2, 4-3-1) have also been in a goal-scoring drought with just two goals in their last four games. They have already played six overtime games this year going 3-1-2. Mariah Titus is the top scoring threat on the team with five goals and two assists while Allie Johnson has scored four goals with one assist. Kylie Hambleton has been the team's main goalkeeper with a 1.15 goals against average, 65 saves and three shutouts, but Magen Ross has been outstanding allowing just one goal in over 270 minutes of action.
